چکیده

Rotational molding constitutes a promising manufacturing technology for rotationally symmetric components made of thermoset matrix with continuous fiber reinforcement. The present study deals the numerical analysis molded composite tie rod metallic load introduction elements. For this purpose, adhesive joint between carbon reinforced plastic and element was investigated in more detail. Different geometries spew fillet were evaluated to reduce stress peaks occurring at ends overlap. A design experiments used determine influence different parameters. An optimized geometry derived compared reference terms distribution. Subsequently, test specimens mechanically tested. results show that maximum stresses within layer can be reduced an fillet, thus higher mechanical tensile achieved.

Bending fatigue of hybrid composite rods

The flexural fatigue behavior of hybrid composite rods comprised of unidirectional carbon and glass fibers was investigated. Damage was evaluated by monitoring stiffness loss as a function of cycles, and bending fatigue failure was defined in terms of strength retention. The acoustic emission technique and microscopic examination were used to characterize damage progression and failure mechanis...

Diametral compression of pultruded composite rods

Diametral compression tests were performed on pultruded composite rods comprised of unidirectional glass or carbon fibers in a common matrix. During compression tests, acoustic emission (AE) activity was recorded and images were acquired from the sample for analysis by digital image correlation (DIC). In both composite systems, localized tensile strain developed in the transverse plane under th...

Tension–tension fatigue of hybrid composite rods

The tension–tension fatigue behavior was investigated for a hybrid composite rod comprised of a unidirectional carbon fiber core and a glass fiber shell. Fatigue tests were performed at three R-ratios and four maximum applied stress levels (MAS) while recording the secant modulus at each cycle, and acoustic emission (AE) sensors were employed to monitor the activation of fatigue mechanisms. Fat...

Self-monitoring Composite Rods for Sustainable Construction

This paper presents the development and properties assessment of braided reinforced composite rods (BCR) able to both reinforce and monitor the stress state of concrete infrastructures. The research study aims at understanding the tensile behaviour and self-monitoring ability of composite rods reinforced by a textile structure braided structure with core reinforcement for civil engineering appl...

Some estimates for the torsional rigidity of composite rods

A well-known problem in elasticity consists in placing two linearly elastic materials (of different shear moduli) in a given plane domain Ω, so as to maximize the torsional rigidity of the resulting rod; moreover, the proportion of these materials is prescribed. Such a problem may not have a classical solution as the optimal design may contain homogenization regions, where the two materials are...
